We have all seen and heard many examples, articles and case studies regarding the trend for business owners, landlords and facilities managers to convert and revamp workspaces to make them more homely, when it comes to office design and office fit out. We ourselves have written a few pieces on this from bringing in plants (real or replica, known as biophilic design) for a pop of colour and a homely vibe to soft seating and breakout areas for flexible yet productive working
And again we all know of some of the options to enhance that home from home look and feel from pods for individual working and privacy to open spaces for collaboration and sofas in such spaces for socialising to flooring being more softer carpets/carpets tiles as opposed to hard flooring. DId you know, Robert de Niro said “If it's the right chair, it doesn't take too long to get comfortable in it.”

Why is a more homely workspace what we are wanting?
Why is a more homely workspace what we are wanting?
According to Medium.com “workers are in a continual search of a better work environment and some are even willing to settle for slightly less pay if the workplace feels like a home away from home in the truest sense.” They also “people now have greater choice — there are so many varied career paths and companies competing for the attention of staff. This has put pressure on employers to re-think their office environment so that they are able to attract and retain top talent.”
Offices or workplaces to include dogs and be dog friendly is also very much a thing too.

What do workers actually want?
Here are some stats to showcase these points and ideas.
• In January of this year, a report by JLL identified that the top three things that workers now want from their office is relaxation spaces, healthy food services and outdoor spaces, however only 17%, 19% and 25% of workers have access to each these things respectively from their office space. In short, workers want the benefits of home in the office
• 60% of office workers unable to concentrate and delivering poor quality work due to loud workspaces
• At least 86% of employees prefer to work alone whether they’re working from home or the office. Employees claim there are fewer distractions when they can separate themselves from others

How we can have helped our customers achieve this?
There is no need to have homely office FOMO, here are some local, real life examples of projects we have worked on.

In summary
The purpose it seems to make staff and teams feel comfortable and at ease which in turn surely makes them more productive and hard working, more loyal and more likely to speak positively to anyone they speak with about where they work which is good PR and marketing.
Better communication between people and teams is also cited as a reason and benefit.
